It was then that he began thinking of his life ashis temporary life--a life without permanence. I appreciate the authors historical research and how he integrated the history with a good story.  I was ignorant of much of the "Great War's" history, so made it even more interesting.  Also frightening to learn how a war causing so much loss of life and destruction was really over probably preventable relatively unimportant events.  It again seems another example of not learning from past history.
